Background and Experience
Heather works with teens (14+) and adults. She treats individuals struggling with life transitions/changes, stressful job transitions, low self-esteem, self-harm and/or suicidal thinking, parenting issues, behavioral problems at home and/or at school, anxiety, anger, grief and loss, social struggles, relationship struggles, family conflict, divorce, and depression.
Her special interests include working with individuals who are struggling with low self-esteem, anxiety, depression, parenting issues, life transitions, and relationship challenges. The population she enjoys working with the most is adolescents and adults in their 20-40s. Heather utilizes various counseling approaches based on each clients needs and goals, including Cognitive-Behavioral, Person-Centered, and Solution-Focused Therapy.
Personal Statement
Life is often times full of challenges. A lot of times, we can doubt ourselves and others, lose hope, lose confidence and even lose faith during those challenges. I am passionate about helping people move through debilitating mental and emotional obstacles so they can live rich lives interpersonally and contribute to the community at large. A warm, empathetic relationship between a counselor and client provides the context where growth and change can take place.
I am married to a wonderful man and I have three kids (2 step kids and 1 biological). In my spare time, I enjoy working out; cooking; hanging out with my friends and family; eating; reading; laughing; watching movies; and being outside.
Education and Training
Heather received her Bachelors of Science in Rehabilitation Studies with a Minor in Psychology from the University of North Texas. She then received her Masters of Science in Counseling at Southern Methodist University.
