Counseling Approaches
Billie-Jo enjoys meeting with children, adolescents, young adults, and adults as they deal with anxiety, depression, major life changes, and stress. Billie-Jo believes that growth occurs when a person feels valued, heard, and respected. Billie-Jo uses mindfulness techniques, play based therapy techniques while working with children, self-refection cues, visual aids, and journaling as ways to increase self- awareness of thoughts and emotions. When it comes to treatment, she believes in ensuring that each treatment style is based on individual client needs and making sure that the approach is effective for them and will always offer unconditional positive regard, acceptance, cultural humility, and respect.

Billie-Jo integrates Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Solution-Focused Therapy (SFT), and Emotion-Focused Therapy (EFT) in her sessions.

Education and Training
She earned her bachelor’s degree in interdisciplinary studies from Texas A&M University and currently working to complete her Masters in Mental Health Counseling from Liberty University. During her time at both Texas A&M and Liberty, she has taken additional classes in child development, group counseling, trauma, and crisis counseling.

Background and Experience
For the past 8 years Billie-Jo has worked as an educator who has primarily taught First, Second and Fifth grade students. During her time as an educator, she has worked with children that have ADHD, Dyslexia, and Anxiety to develop foundational skills such as emotional regulation, self-awareness, social awareness and relationship management. In her district, she has also worked on the Student Health Advisory Committee to ensure that all students have adequate resources in the case of substance abuse, bullying, nutritional meals and adolescent development. She has always had a heart and passion for helping others even as a young child chasing her siblings to ensure they were well cared for.

She has been married to her husband for 9 years and volunteers within her local children’s ministry. She has worked with a program at her church to support parents of kids with medical or emotional needs. In her down time, she enjoys spending quality time with her family, being at the lake and baking with her daughter.

Personal Statement
I enjoy listening to others share stories about the experiences that have shaped them into who they are and who they want to become. I am a firm believer that people have the power within themselves to achieve great things and build amazing legacies.  When it comes to being a counselor, the greatest gift I can give to others is being a safe place for them as they process life. My goal as a counselor is help clients see the beauty and strength within themselves in order to handle any obstacle in their life. In my heart, I believe God created us to help others and lift each other up even in our darkest hours. I believe in the power of standing with each other and using encouragement to create a community where we can be a support system for those in need. I look forward to being able to be a part of your support system on your path to growth and healing.
