Counseling Approaches
Shannon’s approach to therapy is to meet clients where they are with openness and curiosity. She creates a space where people feel they can be themselves and freely share their deepest thoughts, feelings and desires, even those that might be scary to say out loud. More than anything, she is compassionate, aiming to help clients who desire real, lasting change; and being compassionate means she is not afraid to be direct and lovingly challenge her clients. She seeks to help her clients
focus on their strengths and locate their inner guide to help them navigate the challenges that life brings their way.
Background and Experience
Shannon’s career spans corporate positions in Chicago, New York, and Hong Kong, as well as entrepreneurial endeavors, giving her a broad perspective on organizational dynamics and leadership. She has extensive hands‑on counseling experience, having worked with children in therapeutic foster care, families facing severe behavioral challenges, and individuals at risk of entering the foster system. In addition, she has facilitated court‑mandated anger‑management groups for men and led numerous Bible‑study sessions, demonstrating her ability to connect with diverse populations. Beyond direct counseling, Shannon has contributed strategically as an advisor on boards addressing global social justice issues such as clean water, human trafficking, homelessness, and extreme poverty throughout Asia and the Pacific. She currently serves on the board of directors for a nonprofit dedicated to child welfare and brings nearly a decade of experience in early‑childhood and K‑12 education, both in school settings and in homeschooling. Her combined clinical expertise, career‑counseling training, and broad service background enable her to provide comprehensive, empathetic support to both children and adults.
Personal Statement
Life unfolds beautifully, yet we live in a fallen world that often pulls our focus toward the negative, obscuring the wonder that surrounds us. I believe our purpose shines brightest when we are alive in community—sharing love with family, friends, neighbors, and colleagues. My hope is to see everyone walking in purpose, rooted in love, and attuned to the goodness that God weaves through everyday moments. I’ve been married for nearly two decades, raise a tween son, and share my home with three rescued Huskies. Over the years I’ve moved countless times, each fresh start reminding me that he one constant in my life is God’s steadfast love. As a Certified Texas Master Naturalist, I spend my free time exploring God’s creation alongside my family, always seeking the beauty and mercy that reflect His character. This blend of faith, family, and a deep appreciation for the natural world fuels my commitment to help others discover the same sense of purpose and belonging.
