Background and experience
Shacarol has a Bachelor of Arts from University of North Texas in Psychology but also attended Baylor University, Texas Woman's University and abroad at Vertias Universidad in Costa Rica. She went on to receive her Masters of Science in Counseling Psychology from Abilene Christian University. While in Abilene, she was able to counsel Veterans from multiple wars dealing with PTSD symptoms at two different VA locations.  She helped them learn positive coping strategies as well as utilizing several successful strategies including group sessions, in-vivo experiences, and brief EMDR strategies. She also was able to work with low income families and their children in local schools who were struggling with learning disabilities, stress, anxiety, depression, basic needs, and adjustment issues. She has spent extensive time advocating for her students to receive 504 accommodations in school, working with school districts to cater to the needs of those students, as well as supporting the parents through the process.

Personal statement
In counseling, I believe that the therapist and client are teammates, I believe we must work together to find the best solutions for the client’s struggles/conflicts. I believe that most of the solutions are within the client, and it is my privilege to help bring it out of them. As a Christian, I believe that God has equipped each of His children with everything they need to be whole and healthy, but sometimes we just have to do some work to find it. I have a great passion for helping families function to their highest potential and increase their self-worth and efficacy. I believe that with some insight and adjustments, change is more than possible.
