Background/Experience/Training
Concurrently since completing my Masters degree in 2005, I have had a wide spectrum of professional experience these last 8 years. I’ve had additional training and experience working with adolescents in crisis, grief and trauma. I work with adults and children individually and in groups, as well as doing play therapy and family therapy. I use a variety of counseling approaches based on each clients needs and goals, including Person-Centered, Cognitive-Behavioral, Psychodynamic, Solution-Focused, and Play Therapy approaches. Additional counseling issues in which I have experience are: marital and relationship conflict, parenting issues, depression, anger, anxiety, panic/fear, self-harm, low-self esteem, grief/loss, sexual abuse, trauma, post traumatic stress, obsessive-compulsive disorders, adjustment issues, eating disorders, behavior issues, addictions, divorce, and blended families.
I have additional training facilitating children’s grief groups at Journey of Hope and continue to volunteer there. I have attended UNT’s workshops on play therapy and continue to attend various trainings in play therapy, as I’m able. I have experience leading various types of group therapy such as adult experiential, grief, abuse, eating disorders and teens.
Personal Statement
I am passionate to help people move through debilitating emotional/spiritual obstacles so they can live rich lives interpersonally and contribute to the community at large. I am passionate about working with children and teens using play therapy and activity therapy. I enjoy leading therapy groups and see a huge value in group therapy. A warm, empathetic relationship between a counselor and client provides the context where growth and change can take place.
My Christian faith in an integral part of whom I am and informs all I do in life. "All human nature vigorously resists grace because grace changes us and the change is painful." Flannery O’Conner. I have been married almost 10 years and myy husband and I have been raising our three children now 3, 5 and 7 yrs. old. My husband has been a High School Teacher for 10 years. Our family enjoys being involved in our local church. I enjoy reading, watching good movies, yoga, turbo-kickboxing, being outdoors (when its not 100 degrees!), good conversation with my family and friends, and going to fun places like the zoo with my family.
